Introduction to Steam Engine Driving with Churnet Valley Railway

Journey for 11 miles at the helm of the train, taking in the beautiful sights of Churnet Valley along the way - it's an incredible feeling. There are plenty of photo opportunities throughout and the session finishes with a certificate and a polo shirt to take home.

Runs on selected weekdays and weekends throughout the year. The last available dates for this experience this year are the 9th and 10th September 2019.
- Participant Guidelines
Minimum age is 18 and maximum age is 70. The venue can generally cater for those with disabilities but participants must be able to climb the steps into the cab (please quote any specific requirements at point of booking). Participants must be physically and mentally fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive from ground level unaided.
Trips are only ever cancelled in severe snow or floods.
Lasts around two hours with around one hour of driving.
- Numbers on the Day
This is held on a one-to-one basis with a seasoned railway driver.
- Dress Code
Wear overalls or an old cotton clothing that fully covers your arms and legs. Wear a sturdy pair of shoes or boots (toe capped shoes preferably).
